Jui's Swiss Trips

trip 2

Zermatt lies at the foot of the Matterhorn. The town's touristic development is closely linked to what is most probably one of the world's most famous mountains. The vacation destination is a car-free zone having partly preserved its original character with the sunburned almost black wooden houses. We will stroll along the main (shopping) street to the church and the state of art museum Zermatlantis. (Brochure of the museum).

180° Panoramic view (east -> west) from the top view point on Gornergrat [3'133m] - From Monte Rosa to Matterhorn

Anyone who wishes to become acquainted with the most picturesque facet of the Alpine world quickly realises one thing - seeing the Gornergrat at first hand is a must! The Gornergrat is possibly the most stunning viewpoint of the Swiss Alps. From this most impressive summit at 3135 metres you see a fantastic mountain panorama of 29 icy and snowy mountain peaks, all reaching a height over 4000 metres. The Gornergrat is reached by the the highest open-air (no long tunnels) cogwheel railway in Europe, which takes you up there in a 40 minutes ride over impressive bridges, through galleries and tunnels, idyllic forests and alpine meadows, passing rocky gorges.

Hike Riffelsee. On the way back from Gornergrat an easy hike to Lake Riffel and Riffelberg awaits the sporty guest. From Rothenboden a hiking trail of just about 3.5 km takes you down to Riffelberg passing the famous Lake Riffel. If you are lucky enough to be there on a windless day, you will be rewarded by a marvellous mirror image of the Matterhorn in the lake. The hike take about 1:00 hour. Keep in mind, that "You'll Never Walk Alone" since social media. However, in spring and autumn the hike may not be possible due to the snow situation.
